C’est la vie!
I utter that phrase quite frequently. When I have a busier day than anticipated. When gas prices go up right when I decide I need to refuel. When I don’t make time to exercise and go to bed tired anyway. When I drop my scrambled eggs on the floor. Such is life. What else ought we expect?
We can’t possibly plan for everything. If we could we’d likely be more bored than we already are — if we allow ourselves to be bored at all. Life consists in all of the daily activities and simple habits of normal life, and most of the time, for most of us, it looks pretty average. We eat, we work, we play (I hope), we sleep, and we do it all again. And so life goes on much as it always has. Are we enjoying it?
I am learning to. I am learning to enjoy life more all the time, in the unexpected as well as the anticipated. I’m learning to choose gratefulness for the process over impatience to reach the finish line or finish the project — because there is always something else there after you cross the finish line, always another stretch of road after you reach your destination.
When we embrace life for what it is and give thanks for each day that comes to us, we get to live with joy, because joy isn’t something I reach at finish line, but something I can carry with me now. Praise God that I have a choice in the matter! You do too, beloved. You can choose even today to reorient yourself, to adjust your perspective, and be grateful. If you don’t know how to do that, you can choose to ask for help. I give you my word, receiving aid is one of the most liberating things you can experience.
I could continue rambling, but I’ll stop now. Because it’s Friday, and I’ve a life to live. So do you. And I hope you truly enjoy it.
